Imagine how frustrating it would be to try to buy shoes that aren´t your size even when you know what your size is. Throughout the years, we have tried to buy the wrong pair of shoes for our students; this means, matching readers based on age or grade level rather than their actual reading level. The Lexile Framework for Reading connects readers to appropriate reading materials that will help them grow as readers, hence buying the right shoe for each student. This framework is a scientific way teachers of all levels can use to measure text difficulty and reading ability. The result is two Lexile measures: one for the reader and for the text. When both measures are used, it helps teachers connect books and materials that meet and challenge their unique reading abilities, provides information about students´ abilities, aids and differentiates instruction, measures growth, personalizes learning and predicts success.
