In 1891, the College of Milwaukee used Edison’s phonograph to explore new ways of teaching courses in French and other languages. From that date onwards, foreign language instruction has been an early adopter of new technological tools and approaches. When venturing into new lands, it is wise to take a cartographic toolkit that can help guide learning steps. We will see how SAMR and the EdTech Quintet can be used to this end, helping guide both course design and technology choice, with multiple applied examples along the way.
